I met up with a fellow Arctic researcher friend in, appropriately, Hokkaido last weekend. Unfortunately, it was a too-warm 5 degrees most of the time. However, there was lots of snow on the ground.
Sapporo… Rather bland during the day. Felt too much like a Canadian city.Mashed potato gelato. An impressively and off-puttingly accurate recreation of the flavour… Maybe it was actually just frozen mashed potatoes…Hokkaido specialty – Shrimp Miso ramen. Tasty!Sapporo Radio Tower. Japan loves its Eiffel Tower recreations.Hokkaido specialty Lamb BBQ, known as ジンギスカン, “Genghis Khan”… I can’t recall the exact relationship between him and Lamb BBQ though. Jigokudani “Hell Valley” hot springs area. Lots of people.This area particularly, although the whole town too, smelled very strongly of sulfur…Specialty Soup Curry.Hokkaido milk is famous in Japan. The ice cream made from it is deserving of the same fame.Melon soft serve.
